Biography

Yue Yu is a visual storyteller and creative director based in Los Angeles focusing on directing, cinematography, and producing in the Graduate Film program of ArtCenter College of Design.

His films show concentration on earthy humanity influenced by cause and effect, as well as consequences, which reflect the time we presently live in. His work also produces nostalgic appreciation with whimsical and compelling aesthetics. His first short film ‘Silver Enzyme’ successfully got him invited to six of the top film schools in the United States. He was selected by ArtCenter as an orientation leader this fall and a distinguished representative at ‘Lunch with President Lorne M. Buchman’ event.

Before his ArtCenter MFA filmmaking journey, Yue was a highly professional and international visual contributor in the design and fashion industry. He graduated from China's most prestigious diplomatic college UIR with a Japanese Literature BA degree. As well, he was trained by world-class media group Condé Nast as a creative and visual director, and took charge in fashion styling, prop styling, set design and visual innovation for various magazines like GQ, Esquire, Architectural Digest, Bazaar, ELLE, etc. during his editorial career. He also explored his visual and art adventure in the entertainment industry, mainly in charge of originality, plan, production on image and promotion supplies for artists.

Yue is currently working on his thesis film about ‘City of Angels’ inspired by the ‘LA Riots’ in 1992. Freedom, justice and love are main themes of this intriguing story.
